From Inspection to Final Walkthrough

How the storm-restoration process works

Every property and policy is different, but a well-managed restoration follows a clear sequence. We focus on documenting construction conditions, explaining the repair scope and completing approved work correctly while the homeowner and insurance carrier handle coverage decisions.

Our role as your contractor

We inspect the property, document observed conditions, prepare the construction scope of work, meet the carrier’s adjuster to discuss measurements and repair methods, complete contracted work and provide completion documents. For insurance restoration, we do not set the final insurance estimate or pricing.

The insurer’s role

The insurance company investigates the claim, interprets the policy, determines coverage, establishes the approved estimate using its Xactimate pricing, and issues claim payments. The carrier’s adjuster works for the insurance company.

1

Initial property inspection

We inspect the roof and accessible exterior components for wind, hail and water-related conditions. The inspection may include shingles, ridge caps, flashing, valleys, vents, pipe boots, gutters, siding, windows and interior evidence.

  • Photographs and condition notes
  • Roof dimensions, pitch, stories and access
  • Immediate safety or temporary-protection needs
  • Explanation of repairable versus widespread conditions
2

Homeowner reviews the findings

We explain what was observed and provide construction guidance. The homeowner decides whether to contact the insurance company after considering the policy, deductible and likely repair cost. Texas Windstorm Solutions does not determine coverage or file the claim for the policyholder.

3

Claim notification and temporary protection

If the homeowner reports a claim, the insurer assigns a claim number and adjuster. Photograph conditions before temporary work, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage and keep all receipts. Permanent repairs normally wait until the carrier has inspected or approved the work.

4

Adjuster inspection meeting

When requested by the homeowner, we can meet the insurance adjuster at the property. We provide access, identify documented construction conditions, confirm roof measurements and discuss applicable repair methods, code-related components and manufacturer installation requirements. The adjuster independently evaluates the claim for the carrier.

5

Carrier estimate and coverage decision

Texas Windstorm Solutions provides the construction scope of work, measurements, photographs and technical documentation. The insurance carrier—not the contractor—determines the final insurance estimate using its Xactimate pricing and policy terms. Homeowners should review the carrier estimate, deductible, depreciation, exclusions and payment explanation. Questions about coverage or pricing decisions should be directed to the carrier, agent, licensed public adjuster or attorney as appropriate.

6

Construction-scope review

We compare the carrier’s approved scope with field measurements and the work required to complete the restoration. If a necessary construction item is missing or a concealed condition is discovered, we can provide an updated scope of work, photographs and technical construction documentation for carrier review. The carrier decides whether to approve a supplement and establishes the associated Xactimate pricing. This is construction communication—not claim negotiation or public adjusting.

7

Agreement, selections and scheduling

After the scope is understood, the homeowner reviews the written contract, material system, color, warranty terms, payment schedule and expected timeline. The policy deductible is the homeowner’s contractual responsibility and is paid to the contractor as part of the project cost—not paid or given to the insurance company. A Texas contractor cannot legally waive, rebate or absorb the deductible.

What happens during roof installation

Professional roofing crew installing underlayment and architectural shingles on a Texas home
Professional installation: The crew protects the property, removes approved roofing layers, inspects the deck and installs the selected roofing system to manufacturer requirements.
Property protection
Protect landscaping, siding, windows, driveways and designated access areas.
Tear-off
Remove the approved roofing layers and properly contain debris.
Deck inspection
Inspect exposed decking and document concealed deterioration requiring attention.
Water-shedding layers
Install underlayment, valley protection, drip edge and flashing according to the selected system.
Ventilation and shingles
Install approved ventilation, starter, field shingles and ridge components using manufacturer requirements.
Cleanup and quality control
Complete magnetic cleanup, inspect details and perform the homeowner walkthrough.
8

Progress documentation and change conditions

We document installation progress. If damaged decking or another concealed condition is found, the homeowner is informed before additional work proceeds whenever practical. Covered supplements remain subject to carrier review and policy terms.

9

Final walkthrough and completion documents

We review the completed work, address punch-list items and provide the final invoice, photographs and applicable warranty information. The homeowner receives a clear record of what was installed.

10

Final insurance payment and closeout

For replacement-cost policies, the carrier may hold recoverable depreciation until completed work and costs are documented. The carrier may then release one or more additional payments—sometimes through two or more checks—for approved supplements, recoverable depreciation or other remaining covered amounts. Check timing and payees are determined by the carrier and policy. The homeowner is responsible for applying the deductible and applicable insurance proceeds to the contractor balance and completing payment according to the construction agreement.
